Skied the slot for the first time today, and it was all time!!  8-10ish inches of new snow, a little wind loading at the top. We got on a rope and jumped on it anyway, and then skiied fantastic light snow alll the way down! Some slough management was necessary. Skinning up the phantom trees was tough, new snow on top of a firm melt-freeze crust made it tricky in spots and in some areas it seemed that a storm slab had formed. Since it was our first time up there I'm sure there is a more efficient/better route...

We started up the exit route as described by Volken, but about 2/3 up got shooting cracks and heard a collapse. Even though it was a bummer to lose all that elevation, we turned around and headed up the other saddle and down towards snow lake divide, which certainly made for a longer day but we didn't want to find out what happened if we went higher. Best we could tell, the new snow was sitting on a layer of surface hoar, there was very little evidence of wind transport all day. ALso didn't see a soul until we got back into the alpental valley.

go get it!
