This is one of our favorite ski areas. We remember when Alpine was separate from Squaw Valley, and we could park overnight in the parking lots for downhill and backcountry tours. Yes, things have changed with the purchase by Squaw Valley, but the mountain is still a "beauty".
We have Mountain Collective passes which include 3 days between the 2 resorts. We always park next to the Subway lift. We arrived 5 minutes before the lift started and were the third vehicle and 20 steps from the lift. We are addicted to this place. All 13 lifts were running at 9am. We started with Roundhouse Express, then took the Summit Express which at the top was the only place where there were strong winds. We next took the Scott chair to the Backside to get the corn snow as it got better and better. The beauty of the Backside is that you see fantastic lines coming from all over. To make those tracks people started from the Alpine Bowl lift which comes from the front side. When the Sherwood Express runs got slushy we returned to the front side for more packed powder runs on the groomers. We finished the day and marveled at all the powder lines that border with Squaw Valley. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and we were glad that we had sunscreen on our faces.
