Green Mountain (USGS Downey Mountain)

Left TH around 930am with a group of 8, and hit snow in about 1 mile or less, patchy before that but the road approach is easy in a car, rough in a passenger car - real rocky

http://www.nwog.org/images/greenmountain121502/027.jpg

About 1/2 foot of snow in the lower elevations, once out of the trees and near the pond or lake it is deep, about 1-2 feet.

Summit was reached around 1130am

and was cold and windy while most of the hike up was nice, with some suckerholes here and there. We has some okay turns up high, but they got better the further down we went on the slope.

About 2-3 foot base on most of the slope. Yo-yo'd the slope once and hiot a gully far right that had good protected snow. Back down to the car by 4pm.

Hi Scott, did you by chance see a pair of scott ski goggles somewhere on the trail or in the trees.  I lost my pair there a month ago and was hoping it wasnt buried under the snow.

Thanks

Did not see any, but there was quite a bit of fresh snow, even from the night before so they could be anywhere

Good luck finding them

Thanks for adding the photos - nice shots and they really give a good idea of what the conditions were like.

I've been browsing weather data with a ski trip on Thurs or Fri in mind. It looks like everywhere has been getting some good quality snow, and the Baker area has gotten a lot of new. What I am wondering is if this Green Mtn tour is likely to still have good access - ie. not too much logging road to get to the good stuff - as I have never been there before? I'd appreciate any ideas people have on this.

Also, any recent info on the Baker area itself? I saw a suggestion that Mt. Baker Mark might be checking things out, so maybe we'll soon have some good info...
