In the NWAC forecast, Dallas wrote: "Expect difficult travel conditions, with breakable crust, icy slopes, and full creeks." That was right on, as was the rest of the forecast.

My goal today was views, not turns. Rambled up to Cave Ridge, and had a generally good time. Expect tree drip crust at all elevations, and breakable mank below ~4.3k. Ski crampons were essential to a joyful day. Above 4.3k, expect heavy/edgeable dust on supportable crust. Ski carefully tomorrow; knees are important.

Took advantage of the soggy snowpack to make quick work of shoveling the Commonwealth bridge. At those elevations, the snow may have gone almost isothermal.

NWAC was right with the prediction of fair weather early. We live in such a beautiful place.

Avalanche wise, there was plenty of surface chunder below small cliffs. Atop Cave Ridge, there were hints of extremely stubborn wind slab over soggy snow, no more than 20 cm deep?. Probably the least-reactive snowpack I have seen this season.

Edit: Adding photos.
Good report. Not disappointed I'm in Chicago. 40s and sunny

Going to a ball game tomorrow?

Thanks for your bridge work for the community.  Best wishes for the New Year!
