Boxing Day December 26, 2018 was an awesome sleeper country club day!!!  Fresh refills all day long. 6-16” ski penetration in shot 6 and rocks off. Nice 1-3” fluff inbounds. Lines were non existent. Graceful skiing was observed.

No shock about the dog park TH. Yet a few miles away I ran into just one other party out of another  TH, and with some excellent snow - way more than  us few could  use! Though below 3500 or so brushy areas are still exacting  a bit of an early season approach tax.

Wonderful, beautiful views Glacier Peak to Rainier and all the local landmarks.  Quite empty early; Chair 2 lines grew 11-1230 or so and then shrank. I had the entertainment of a ~ 40 foot vert fall on Nash lower entry perhaps related to dodging rocks...OK got that out of my system for the year! Powder Bowl and Gunmount held great preserved powder.

Armstrong lighted at the club on Tuesday evenings? Follow up: yup.  Odd 20% ice/60% packed pow/20% blown in heavy pow. Snowpack notably shrunk from 12/31.

It's been nice having everything from Ingrid's to No Fog in play - helped spread out the holiday crowds but did little to keep the ski skoolers at bay. Should be back to country club conditions for the next few days

Chilly up there today but good news is the hot Spaghetti feed is at Alpental this coming Saturday @ 6pm!  Benefits the patrol who keep you safe, OK I'm biased, but head up anyways.  Feed your cascade traverse bashing grom as much as they can eat for $4, $8 adults, screaming deal.

Great to ride with the successful BBI19 legend on the padded seats.  Should have read this page a bit more carefully before taking kids down E shaft as it was missing some sections midway down which made for sporty descents for all.  Nobody lost a leg so it was deemed a success.  Fun day.

phace book probably has the long version prepared for mass consumption so i’ll just stick to the mediocre report of the day. thanks to Etta’s girl handler and apparently a superb route finder with the flattest high T i can remember. shout out to bonespurs for not starting a war this past week. sure helped to have world peace and a winning BBI while we’re in this state of emergency. didn’t notice any groomers did see the shark fins on l’International.
tried to do my share and grind down those obstacles.

Mountain skied great on Sunday.  Was shocked to find, two days after a storm and a busy Saturday, that things like Powder Bowl/Rollen/Gunmount delivered untracked turns until I decided to head out Nash.  From there it was playing skiers right under the Clever into the trees, then helpings of Sunshine and Hummox, with deep, soft untracked lines mixed in until closing bell.  What a fun mountain you guys have!

Reversed roles w/ flowing & co. and made my way to the padded seats to see what leftovers remained. After an exploratory mission out back I settled for hot laps on the lower mtn during the last ski skool lunch break of the season then linked up w/ some like-minded individuals and pushed further out the gate. Ended the day with a long lap to the bottom via pineapple and still had plenty of time to catch the sunset from my living room window out East.

Twas knee+ deep in the right places
Slashes in the shade continued to powder faces
Rode right on 2 thanks to the exceptional grooming
Snow on the far side was perfect for afternoon 'shrooming

Rocks showing up in some key spots a bit early, but still plenty of fun  elsewhere up there.

BTW I really enjoyed the country club (on a dead day) crowd and muted clothing colors in comparison  to what will happen  once the fair resort  to  the south closes for the season ;-)

What, the touring crowd dresses too brightly for your taste?

Easter's on the calendar but everything after that is TBD

littlest was able to eat shit a few times, pick her self up and ski.

The bright spanking new Obermeyer gear does help  with visibility on  flat light days, if you ski close enough to them to see the light reflected from their clothing on the snow...

Please do!! And I will too the next time I see him. Super strong and smooth on top, I was so pumped. And then looked strong down Low I, comments by a number of coaches around me on his bump technique. 8th place rocks!!! That was a strong field.

No numeric rating but yesterday afternoon  was pretty fun. Moody cloudy spring afternoons with some light sprinkles are growing on me. The low angle stretches never got grabby and everything was soft or at minimum carvable (i.e. some firm bits on  upper I inbetween piles of loose snow were very edgeable).  There's still plenty of  terrain that  has not yet consolidated from lack of "skier grooming" but also plenty that is in very nice skiing shape.

Sunny Sunday fun, nice contrast to cold early March. Cover low for end of March, that is for sure.  Bonus Silver Fir was grab-olicious.

Rained. Snow sucked. Vis was terrible. Nash was rocky. Jerrys were on course. More terrain was closed than open. Can't wait to do it all again tomorrow Grin

seriously mediocre but much was accomplished

a re-cap for the past week include much variation in conditions and mood.
we skied out the midweek run of mild weather at acre/Sliver.
it was good training for the weekend that included low expectations which were exceeded by the relatively dry air, though the snow was classic maritime.
9:30 up Padded Seats with lilC for an *oversnowed* bonding lap,
Smiley went well.

Hard to believe the only necessary piece of wet weather equipment necessary this past weekend was a google squeegee

Today's weather, OTOH... good thing the hill's closed on weekdays Cheesy

gate opened after lunch allowing passage to her cleaver
clean lines top to bottom found at the top of her steps
silky smooth with mounds & curves in all the right spots

Easter was better than Christmas this year. clearly there must have been something else going on that kept the pugetopolis powder techs away from LoT4. crossed paths with nary an uphiller, sledder, dog walker and spent a considerable amount of time thanking UllR for the opportunity to slay the magical surface that is spring snow.

The slides that  ran over Cascade Traverse and the closed trails on the upper mountain combined to create some fantastic human obstacles courses given the "last day nothing else but Mission  Ridge open" crowds. Stuff that  had been skied a bit was pretty fun. It felt a lot more like post-season touring at the  area than in-season lift riding from a coverage perspective - definitely a heads-up sort of inbounds day!! They closed upper I for a little while somewhere  around 2:30 to allow for safer extraction of someone who  had apparently taken an injurious spill right by the lower entrance. Not a shock given how many people were clearly in over  their heads at various spots.

I took my only fall of the day while standing still after my first lift ride (waiting for some friends to come up Armstrong), waiting in a (I thought) safe spot that  could be well seen from above and was "guarded" by a little one foot tall tuft of shredded evergreen stobs poking out of the snow just uphill of me. A guy plowed his snowboard right through the  thicket of stobs and slammed into me - fortunately his board hit my boot and binding and not my leg above my boot, and I slammed down onto the snow hard enough to bruise a bit but fortunately nothing worse. He fell just above me and nearly karate chopped me with his board as he wildly swung it over toward me in a blindly reflexive attempt to right  himself, but I yelled at him to stop  and wait for me to move out of  his way (and I think I kind of grabbed/pushed the nose of his board before he had given it too much momentum) before doing any more damage to me, and  he relented. Fortunately his fleeing-lemming behavior was NOT a harbinger of what the rest of the  day would hold - all in all it was a fun day and the crowds actually not as impactful on the experience as on some other closing days in seasons past. Oh, and my friend who watched the whole thing from a few feet away said he sounded pretty drunk (at 11AM) when he made some pathetic excuse for his antisocial behavior.
