As is often the case, the 8-12" at the other passes turned into 3" at mine. Many times there is more snow at 3,000' than at the summit, but not today. I put in a skin track at Kings Ridge that should only be followed with ski crampons - oops...By the time I realized.....
No bond whatsoever between the new fluff and the hard crust. The good news is that the crust is hard and thick and is forming a great base that covers up those pesky volcanic ridge rocks. All the stumps are still there, however. 8" more and low angle skiing will be fantastic! You will have to plan your routes, however. And no, low angle is not 37 degrees.... I skied a short 30 plus degree road cut and was shocked that the 3" didn't sluff. I later realized it was south facing and exposed to solar radiation and
must have warmed some, and grudgingly accepted the new cold fluff. It's not always going to be like that...
If we get anything like 8" this week, message me. There's no better place when everything lines up...we also hardly have tree wells!
