Last night was it was 6 degrees and we were in our camper-van. Thank goodness for our propane furnace (which came on frequently); with it and a few extra layers we were warm emough. We stopped at ABasin last year in mid March and the coverage was poor. Today,we skied both sides of the resort.. The powder storm on December 9 did not hit Abasin, and they hadn't had any fresh snow in the last 72 hrs. It started out very cold, but the weather was sunny and warming. The groomers were fine, but off piste there were patches of rock and brush. The East Wall was closed and numerous steep areas had boulders. Our stepson in NH taught at ABasin during his Boulder days. We skied and took pictures of the changes from his era about 20 years ago. They just opened a new quad lift, "Beaver", which gives access to the Beavers & Steep Gullies. The Montezuma Bowl was open, but the coverage is only fair. We skied around, but it was a groomer day with many "firm" areas. Not quite what we were hoping for.
