How does a big serving of dirty chickenheads served up in little (sun) cups sound? Not that good, right? Well, throw in a side serving of perfect corn and we had a day that far exceeded expectations!
Word of the day was "left" as in stay left, skiers left. The recently opened crevasse? Not that far left! Although nasty and well trampled near Camp Muir, as the terrain opened up and we were able to ski leftward we found some wonderful bands of the last of the remaining "new" snow from a couple weeks ago. As it got thinner and turned patchy, judgement became more important-making turns on the patches of new and only traversing the nasty, ligament hungry dirty chop. Eventually the patches of new gave out, but by then (7800'?) the snow is wide and it was possible to ski far left while we made big, slow turns and got a nice base polish on the grit.
The hike down may have been the most spectacular colors I have ever seen at MRNP. Back to the parking lot and beer on the deck for a few minutes of people (and dog) watching before heading home. Month 142 was a great one!
