With winter skiing and riding season coming up, the fall makes for a great time of the year to work on some ski/ride conditioning. A good way to decrease your chances of knee injury is making sure you have a good strength ratio between your quadriceps and hamstrings by not having overly dominant quadriceps muscle strength coupled with weak hamstrings. As a matter of fact, I tend to place more emphasis on my posterior aspects of my legs when doing leg workouts at the gym considering my quads are getting ample muscle activation when skiing and hiking, especially on steep up hill sections.

I find a good alternative to doing hamstring exercises on those machines, is to use the TRX.
