My sweetie Jen and I headed to Paradise to celebrate Valentine's Day. We used our fish scale skis and never put on skins.
We found 3 inches of superlight snow on a bomb proof crust from Paradise to the Williwakas Glacier/Paradise Glacier divide where we turned around. Our route went up through Edith Creek Basin to Mazama Ridge and then north to point 6766'. Up until Wed. evening there had been very little wind. The light snow made it easy to turn my Karhu Lookouts.
Then we headed down the Mazama Ridge ski route toward Reflection Lakes to make a very nice holiday loop. At the bottom of Mazama Ridge the crust was a bit less solid beneath the new snow.
It was Jen's first time to Rainier and my first winter trip in over 10 years! We completed the celebration with a night at the Longmire Inn. Way over my budget but worth it for a Valentine's idea.

Way to go John! Nice to hear about your Valentine's Day trip.
My family and I and a couple of friends stayed at the NP Inn last January overnight two different times. There was great pow at Mazama Bowl. My family enjoyed the Inn, especially my 5 yo daughter.

Thanks, Randonnee. With all that great touring around Paradise, plus those great slopes across in the Tatoosh, I wish it weren't such a long drive from home in Roslyn. I really need to get back into winter camping to make it more feasible. One stay in the Inn per year is about all I can budget!
John, funny you should mention winter camping.... :)
