The hike to Colchuck Lake is basically snow free. (a few patches) Getting around the lake is challenging. There's not enough snow to make easy travel without post-holing and not enough melted snow to make the the bouldering easier. In other words you either need more or less snow in its current state to get around the lake easily. We Heading straight up 300 feet and around the lake so you are not battling willow and huge boulders.  We skied Colchuck Glacier twice in two days. It's in great shape for skiing. Asgard Pass is melting out very fast. Especially at the top. Speaking of snow melt, there's some serious concern of flooding around Leavenworth. So you might have a look...Every creek, river, etc is running huge. Colchuck Glacier is a long way to take your skis for a walk, but skiing was delightful.
Thanks for the report. The dam at 8 mile lake is being watched by state Dam Safety and there is talk of possible dam failure. I'm surprised the USFS is allowing vehicles up the road. Was the parking lot at 8 mile closed?
