Spent a fun week in the Sun Valley area end of March. Thanks to a solid 24 hours of heavy rain up to 7500ft on day 2, followed by cold and clear weather, the ski area was pretty nasty off-piste but we found plenty of excellent quality powder in the Galena summit area, 30 miles north, elevations from 7800-10,000ft. There is an abundance of easily accessible moderate terrain there with plenty of plowed pullouts allowing safe parking. Route finding is relatively easy as the terrain is only lightly forested. Best snow was found in shaded tree runs and north facing bowls, especially above Titus lake. The views out to the Sawtooths were truly enchanting. There are safe low angle routes around here even in higher avy conditions. Also got a couple days of skate skiing in on the groomed trails between Sun Valley and Galena Lodge. These were probably the most scenic and fun nordic trails I've been on, although uphill skating at 8,000ft is quite aerobically taxing. The excellent food at Galena lodge is worth a stop.

Nice report.  Looks well worth a visit.  The Sawtooths really are an under-appreciated range, and I expect many people want to keep it that way  ;D

Yeah ! Thanks for posting.

Beautiful! Unusual to see posts of cross country skiing here on TAY or Galena!

Nothing to see here. Move along.
