March 10th,2018 Surprise Pass loop, Lake Louise,AB

YoYo and I did a very enjoyable classic loop tour over Surprise Pass and over Lake Louise.    Weather was perfectly clear and winds nill.   Avalanche Canada had predicted Considerable avalanche hazard from combined solar effects and much warmer temperatures today.   However temps were 1F at day break and just barely climbed to 32F when we reached Surprise pass around 1:30  -- so we observed only minor amounts of "snowballing" off of the south aspect cliffs on either side of the couloir leading to the pass.  The guide book suggested a bootpack up the couloir, but a well established skin track was easy enough to follow.

The first few turns from Surprise Pass were a little tight dodging rocks -- but it opened up quickly.   Many Many tracks made for somewhat choppy skiing, but we were able to find some decent snow off to the sides during some portions of the descent.

Crossing the lake back to the start point was entertaining with a huge array of walkers, snowshoers, dog sledders and xc skiers criss crossing the lake.
