I'm interested in playing around with tele, but I don't want to spend a lot of money. Because of this, I want to DIY a sort of tele tech system. Does anyone have an old pair of tele heel springs/rods/heel setup that they would be willing to let go of for cheap (a little cash or a six pack of beer)?

Hi sgerts;
Don't mess around with jerry-rigged binding set-ups. Here's a deal you can't pass up. I've got a pair of old Voile 3 pin/cable combo bindings which I will trade for 2 six packs of craft beer. http://www.voile.com/voile-3-pin-cable-telemark-binding.html These bindings are my favorite for tele touring because they're light, simple and allow you to clip the cable down behind the heel block and tour with complete heel freedom.

Hi Pico,
Thanks for the offer, but I'm not interested/proficient enough in tele skiing to go to the effort to mount a whole new setup. At this point, I just want to have something to play around with to see how I like it. Also, I don't have a tele boot, so I want to do this with my AT boots, which I don't think I can do with the 3-pin bindings.

=========================================== Hi sgertz: Not quite sure I understand how you could learn tele in AT boots. Without a flexible boot, it isn't going to work very well at all. If you're using a Dynafit style toe, you could approximate a tele turn while in tour mode, but it would be pretty clunky and awkward because of the rigid boot and forward pivot point. In any case, I would not recommend spending time trying to approximate a tele binding.

I have tech bindings and NTN freedom bindings and even with a tele boot you really can’t turn in tour mode. I agree that tele in an AT boot is going to be awkward and painful.

KLW, I would be interested in your K2 skis to try out. If you're near Seattle, I could pick them up from you and we wouldn't even have to deal with shipping.
Are these the T2 boots you're referring to?

Myikat, my Scarpa AT boots are a size 26.5 mondo. Do you have a boot that's around that size?

Lucky- my size. May have a pair of Scarpa T2 with intuition liners that you can have. Will look in the depths of the storeroom.

Ah no worries. Maybe I'll start another post in search of boots. If you end up finding them, give me a shout!
