Driving home from work at 5:30 on New Year's Eve I noticed that the moon was bright–really bright. I decided that ringing in 2018 with some ski turns would be a good idea.

A couple phone calls and a few hours later a friend and I headed up the Baker highway to Heather Meadows. With the light of the almost super-moon, visibility was better than 60 percent of my ski days at Baker, and headlamps were unnecessary. We romped up to Herman saddle and reclined to enjoy the lunar lit views of Baker and Shuksan. After midnight, we took a lap down to Iceberg Lake for our first turns of 2018 before skiing back to the car.

Best snow is hiding on sheltered, shaded slopes; it's quite variable elsewhere.

Happy New Year to everyone, I wish you abundant untracked powder in 2018.

I-phone photos actually turned out okay with no light, which surprised me.
So envious! What a great way to ring in the new year, great work! Thanks for the report!
