Decided to play hooky from classes and see how much snow there was up on Lolo Peak via Carleton lake TH. North facing slopes produced, with about 8-10" of powder, everything was as bony as a bonefish. The Lolo fire totally decimated the trail, but made for some good glade skiing off of carlton ridge. Almost 50 miles of moving! (26 on the bike, 20 hiking, 4 skiing)

Impressive! So you rode all the way from US 12 to the usual trailhead? Wow! Lolo Peak is one of my favorites!! I've lived in and out of Missoula for 17 years now. That's also where I set off my one and only avalanche, on June 3rd in a big snowstorm! We hiked all the way to the top of Carlton Ridge (no snow) and it was snowing so hard as we neared the summit that we were able to ski all the way back within 1/4 mile of the TH! Epic trip on Alpine skis in 2001. The day after, June 4th, is the only time it's snowed on my birthday in my life! Good times!!
Well, almost (I hitched a ride for about 3 miles up Mormon Creek Road to the TH). Did you say you set the avi off on Carlton ridge?
I set off an avalanche on Lolo Peak above Carlton Lake in 2001. On June 3rd. On alpine skis. (I didn't have a clue and was lucky!)
