The beta is certainly out of date, but thought it was worth the share for shits and giggles.

In summer 2016 But a PITA, tail-banging carry of skis down the Snow Lake side.

So I vowed to not do that again. Fast foward to 4th of July Weekend 2017 and I was lucky enough to get invited on another Enchantments trip. After reading reports of boatloads of snow still in the Core, how could I not ski?

Thanks to the one, the only, Lowell Skoog...I had my answer, FIGLS! Lowell graciously offered to let me borrow a pair.

Yes, they are super short. Yes, they look super silly. Yes, they are surprisingly heavy for their size. But damn, the carry sure was easier without tails hanging down.

After an awkward, short warm up run trying to figure out how to Figl (hint, jump turns work when all else fails), I set my eyes on the slopes of Little Annapurna.

Ready to Figl!

Now on steeper terrain, I suddenly found myself actually able to carve turns! I was stoked. To my surprise, I managed many smooth, linked corn turns. Fun!

The carry out still sucked with the extra weight, but it was much nicer than carrying full length skis. (For now..) I'm saying I won't be carrying any length skis to the Core again, and instead have my sights on a true ski traverse. But all and all some fun and novel turns in an exceedingly beautiful setting. Thanks again to Lowell for letting me borrow the Figls!

Cheers!

Matt, nice to see the FIGLS in action. I used my FIGLS which were in the same look, color and bindings years ago. Last year I sold my pair to a person back East.  Glad to see the FIGLS on snow.  ;)

Word!

Figls are always good for a smile.

Back in the day, there were lighter variants like the Kneissl Bigfoot. You might be able to find them for sale somewhere.

The Atomic ARC figls were made for racing, so they're pretty beefy. Actually, I think one of the main contributors to the weight of the ones you borrowed is the bindings. I have a pair with lighter bindings, but they're not as adjustable, so I gave you the heavy ones. The figls you borrowed belonged to my brother Carl.

Wish I still had the Chouinard firn gliders!
