Esmerelda Trail Head is still inaccessible to cars due to a barrier on the road about a mile from the TH. I'd walked this closure in June. This time we brought bikes and that made the closure a pleasure. Coasting back to the car was so satisfying! The trail is in great shape with one downed log and that's it. The road is in fabulous shape too. We found enough snow to make a worthwhile day trip. We didn't, but you could ski from Fortune Peak to the basin floor with some creativity. It's warm and melting fast though. Not surprisingly, we didn't see any other skiers.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures of a great place. Great to see a new generation meeting the mountaln goat and skiing that basin. Bikes were an excellent idea!
