Going fast after a better than average snow winter. I guess it has been a warm Spring. Cateye lake 25% frozen. Snow starts at Spray Park but is discontinuous up to Cateye lake. From there I went straight up the lower Flett and found a way over a ridgelet to the east (climber's left) to the Russell, then up to near the top of Observation rock. There is a cool flat area near the lip of the Flett headwall. There were tracks from the day before so I de-chickened out and descended the Flett. There are a few incipient cracks around the lip but nothing gaping. More than decent snow. On and off skis to drop down to the trail, then the up and down death march. No real insects yet and lots of flowers. Get it soon. I put some pictures on Facebook and public access but am too out of it to transfer here sorry...should be find-able with my name David Koelle
