Badger Creek Wilderness, near Mount Hood:
Skied into an area that doesn't even see much traffic in summer. But in winter - no tracks but ours. It felt like quite an adventure, dropping over the ridge not sure what to expect below. After skiing an open glade with deep powder we came upon a small lake (Jean Lake), crossed and dropped further below, having to traverse through some tighter trees. After lunch near Badger Lake, with the wind howling across the valley, we skinned up the ridge opposite the one we had just skied down. Open runs looked promising. 1500 feet above the lake we gained the ridgecrest (Badger Butte). The top was a bit tight but lower the skiing was quite good. We returned the way we came. It wasn't exactly straightforward skiing the whole way but fun to explore a new area that is not in any guidebooks.
