I'm considering doing the Ptarmigan Traverse on skis over Memorial Day weekend (next weekend). Seems like there should be more than enough snow; I'm worried about (a) road conditions adding many miles to each end, and mostly (b) avy conditions on the route. Anyone have insight into either of these? NPS says the Cascade River Road was snow-free until Boston Creek, but gated at Eldorado as of May 13. Suiattle River road is open, apparently.
