Kirkwood 4/6/17 Worst morning ever

I last skied Kirkwood when it was a new, modern resort in about 1978. I was really looking forward 40 years later but the weather didn't cooperate. In the parking lot a seasoned veteran told me that the only high lift, The Wall, had the worst blue ice he had seen in his life. Ski Patrol confirmed. All other lifts that reached the ridge were closed due to wind and blizzard conditions. Lower lifts
Were rock hard and running extremely slow. I tried one runnoff the groomed and wished I'd had ice tools with me. The "snow" was heavy and hard from first thing, but the winds were so strong it went somewhere else...Yesterday had been very warm and off
Groomed was as bad as anything I've seen on Rainier...

Junior National Freeride Event this weekend going to be interesting.

Try Sugar Bowl - we were there in late February
and the lifts were awesome, especially compared to Alpine Meadows.
Squaw Valley was just really crowded, though it was the
President's holiday week.

It's a weather issue not human.

Guess we have been very lucky...never had a bad day at Kirkwood in April...Wish at trip to Tahoe had fit in the shedule this year...will we get lucky and have two years of big snow? Hopefully....
