New phone app for avy terrain
« on: 04/01/17, 08:56 AM »

Has anyone heard about the new phone app called 'guide pad'?

my understanding is that it is based on the 'pokeman' tech.

How it works is after you arrive at the trailhead, you get out your phone, point it at the terrain and simply follow the pokeman like figure, lit up on the screen, and proceed on up to the ski lines.

Anytime the avy terrain is approached, the pokeman will start to glow red.

At that point, you simply point the lazer attachment at the snow and the app analyzes the snow structure for you. If the pokeman glows green, it's safe to proceed.

This new app will revolutionize the way we backcounty ski and we'll all be singing pink floyd's ''we don't need no education, hey teacher leave those kids alone''.
