On Saturday, I finally got to ride a line I have been staring at and dreaming of for a long time - the Stonecrop Glacier on Slalok Mtn in the Duffey Lake zone. In my opinion this is the best line doable as a day trip from Vancouver. Starting from Slalok's summit at 2650m, the Stonecrop is an almost true north facing 1100m sustained steep pitch that ends on the highest of 3 lakes in Joffre Lakes Prov. Park. It is the perfect line.

Unfortunately, weather came in on the ascent, and it was a total whiteout by the time we started up the ridge to the summit so we stopped about 100m short. Zero vis and high winds on top made us a bit tentative but snow was bomber and vis got better as soon as we could see rock. Once we got into the gut, we could open it up. So stoked to have finally done this! I will definitely be back on a sunny stable day to ride it from the summit!

That's a great line. Nice one.

BeautT looking venue!  THANKS

Wow - that looks like an awesome place

Awesome, discostew!
I was up there that day after a week at Wendy Thompson. We got to the lake and saw the Stonecrop and were severely tempted to change plans from Heart Strings (which ended up sucking) to that. Damn, I wish we did. Next time

Thanks all!

Kamtron, Taylor or Heartstrings was actually our back up plan. Sorry to hear it wasn't great. I'm guessing you felt the raincrust? Hope you had a great week at Wendy Thompson! Haven't been there in a couple years but I have some great memories there.
