Crystal 2/23 was created by Scotsman
Ski day with PNWBrit( banned for life) and my newlywed son before he heads to Haines, AK tomorrow for 10 months.
Right Angle, Shakers, Throne Chutes to DFF on nice but cut-up powder to start the day.

Resort pretty much tracked out by the midweek gang( good job boys) even in my secret stashes so we headed out gate E4 ( top of Morning Glory hike)for some exploratory skiing in terra incognito for me.

Absolutely top notch snow quality yielding great powder skiing through ever steepening open glades.
By the time we stopped, decision had to be made wether to continue to 410 or skin back out.

Skin back out it was and it was a beauty. Tight trees, very steep, deep snow, lots of kick turns. 1 and 1/5 hours later we rejoined the ski area and skied Nickel Kitty on tired legs down to NW lift.
Right Angle and Gap road back to base.

They had had enough but I needed some more turns so I skied a couple of solo T2B's ( Exterminator and MFIB) before joining them and our wives in the Elk for cookies and strong black coffee.
Great day with my son and BFF.

How was stability on those west faces? Saw people putting in steep skin tracks out in Crystal lakes with some sluffs and point releases on east slopes. Still some nice lines to be had in Silver. Snowed on and off all day but even the filtered sun made south slopes heavy by mid day in Campbell. Why bother with the soup report- it's always the same.

Stability seemed good, no sluffs and no point releases.
Top surface is covered with big hoar crystals.
Snow quality was superb...not heavy at all.
We stopped where we stopped because it was getting progressively warmer as we went further down.
When I saw some snow starting to drop off some of the trees , I decided to head out of the glades into the  tight trees and start climbing out. It got colder as we got higher and that felt good.
