Nice day in the backyard. I skinned up, from the new Switchback parking area, to the first knob east from the saddle, dropped in, skinned back up, skied back to car. 3300 vertical. Variable snow: below 5000 spring conditions; the upper open area has a strong crust, icy in places; Victor bowl had pristine powder (some slide debris), and is waiting for godfather Runcle. In the bowl I ran into Dane whose track I had basically followed up, and was happy to use his track up Victor, too. He had skied the steep couloir that starts a little farther east, and while my ancient muscles labored up Victor he managed to enjoy a second run. Watch out for ice bombs under the trees: I didn't have a helmet and now I have a bump. Niko
Nice report.

the new Switchback parking area

Will this parking be plowed on a regular basis, is it an afterthought when it hasn't snowed recently, or was it a freebee we can't count on?

Your guess is as good as mine, TM. I'm not sure I'd even call it a parking lot but there's room for 3 cars and next to it another, smaller one. About 0.2 miles before summer Switchback trailhead, south side of the road. N
