Any fellow Bellingham backcountry skiers out there?
I'm looking to hook up with local folks for trips up the Baker highway and elsewhere.

David showed me around up by Table Mountain a decade ago (don't know if you remember me, David, I found you on a usenet newsgroup and my wife Yanna and I tagged along on one spring tour...), so I'm guessing he has some idea where to ski.
I still live near Seattle, but will give you a ping one of these days when I'm headed up to see if you want to get out.

Hello, this is my first post on this forum. I've been lurking for the last few weeks.
I live in Bellingham and am looking for people to BC ski tour with around Mt Baker, Manning Park, US 2, etc..
I skied up to Herman Saddle on 01/22/06 with a friend who will be gone until April or so. I'm new to the steep, snowy backcountry on skis and have been using relatively light gear (Alpina Cross Terrain skis, 3 pin bindings and Karhu XCD Traverse boots with climbing skins and also a heavy NNN-BC set-up) so going up was fine but skiing down was a challenge in spots. I can get down about any slope with traversing and kick turns if I have to. Skiing out to Artist Point was easy except for the steep, downhill skied out part in the ski area. Just bought some Garmont Squadra G-Fit plastic tele boots this morning :)but do not have skis for them yet.
My knowledge of avalanches is basic. I dug pits on a Winter Mountaineering class on Mt Rainier years ago. I'm re-reading ABC's of Avalanche Safety and other info.. I don't own a beacon but I have been trained on how to use them and dig someone out. But, I'd need to practice since it's been awhile.
I guess I'm looking more for a partner to ski tours like in Kirkendall and Spring's cross country ski tour guidebooks which do include harder tours like Cutthroat Creek (off NC Hwy.) and Herman Saddle and Coleman Pinnacle and Heliotrope Ridge. jerboy2468@hotmail.com if interested. http://www.msnusers.com/hikingjer/northcascadesofwa2005.msnw
