January 13th, Asahidake Ropeway, Hokkiado, Japan

Great day riding the Asahidake Ropeway and touring above.

Weather today at the top of the ropeway was much more favorable -15C and 3/m/s winds (5F , 6mph) After doing several laps on the ropeway and enjoying deep wind transported snow (not the famous Asahidake Powder) the cloud layer lifted and YoYo and I started touring towards Asahidake itself. As we climbed the visibility improved and the wind stiffened. Skinned to about 400 vertical feet short of Asahi-dake summit, where I didn't want to continue without ski crampons and a whippet due to steeper and icier slopes.
