Jan 6-8, 2017, Scottish Lakes High Camp

Back up for our annual family trip.  As before, transportation and logistics were excellent, thank you Zeke, Erik and MacKenzie (and Chris). It was good and  cold, 5 degrees at the pickup point for a frigid snowmachine ride up to 5000 feet, where the thermometer said 2 degrees. The hot tub and sauna were perfect. In general the snow was excellent with week-old powder holding up well. There are curious voids at the bottoms; tree wells, the undersides of rocks and so on, reflecting the lack of any big rain and warm-cold cycles so far.  This kept us from being too ambitious in the lower elevation areas. Saturday was cold with high clouds and snowing by the afternoon so no long trips to the lake Julius area, just stuck around High Camp. We skied the 8 miles/3,000 foot drop out on the road Sunday, and there was a soft 1-3 inches of fresh cold powder on the well groomed logging road.  19 degrees at the car lot at 2,000 feet.  90 min delay about 12 miles of Goldbar about 5:45-7:15, according to Google due to an accident but it must have been cleared by the time we got there, so just a frustratingly slow tired trip home.  We witnessed the aftereffects of at least one other accident also and it was snowing heavily to about Goldbar.
