1-7-17 Revised Paradise Weekday Schedule
« on: 01/07/17, 06:46 AM »

Previous tweets implied the recent three-day closure was because of waiting for a plow part.  Now continuing plow repairs and safety are the excuse for weekday openings delayed until 10am for the next two weeks, but they can somehow still stick to the weekend/holiday schedule?  Their communication seems confusing & inconsistent at best, verging on dishonest:

Weekday scheduled openings have returned to 9am as of 1-17-17:

Let's hope it will not be as hypothetical as last week's revised schedule.  The fact that they opened early two mornings, but late on a weekend suggests the whole schedule is pretty arbitrary:

Th   1-12  (7:13)  Expected 10; (9:03) Open [no new]
F    1-13  (7:08)   Expected 10; (8:35) Open [no new]
Sa  1-14  (7:13)   Expected 9;   (9:33) Open [no new]

The gate actually opened on Saturday just minutes after 9am, well before the 9:33am post on Twitter. I've noticed that issue a few times before, the time that the Twitter post is made is well after the gate actually opened. So it's best to treat the Twitter "open" post time as an "opened sometime before" time.

Even though the gate opened basically on time on Saturday, it took forever for those of us waiting patiently in the Longmire lot to get through, as the LE on duty was waving through every car coming up the road from the park entrance, and holding stopped all the cars coming out of the Longmire lot (who must be given the right of way in that case despite their stop sign, since those cars have been waiting for some time, and cars coming up the road have been waiting for zero time). First time I've ever seen the LE on duty be that clueless about which direction of cars need to have priority to get through the gate. Really very annoying. Every other LE knows how to handle it correctly.

Paradise road status has been switched to Facebook:

This sucks for those without accounts   Sad

"... All bureaus and the department have been directed by incoming administration to shut down Twitter platforms immediately until further notice," read a notice that went out across the National Park System on Friday.

The issue behind the order was apparently an unflattering retweet the National Park Service made comparing crowds at President Obama's 2009 inauguaration and Trump's inauguration. The photos were telling: gaps in the crowds for Trump's inauguration, and a National Mall practically bursting at the seams for Obama's.

Looks like everything is back to normal now, or at least back to the new-normal:

Interior Department reactivates Twitter accounts after shutdown following inauguration
