Cleaning Skins was created by Daniel_G
Anyone have any tips on cleaning the glue side of a relatively new pair of skins? I usually summer my skins on the cheat sheets, but this year, they left a layer of plastic mesh on one, only one of the skins and they are darned hard to pick off.

Cut paper grocery bags into strips and put them on the glue then iron over that. It will take off glue and everything so you will need to reglue. You could also try a heat gun and metal scraper.

Heat gun and a metal scraper are by far the best for full regluing. For cleaning - do they still stick well to the skins? If so, don't bother. If not, tweezers, with or without BF's additive.

I've given my skins a quick wipe with a lint free rag, wetted with xylene or toluene. Livens up dead or dusty glue, and makes picking pine needles easier. Might make it easier to get the pics off for you. No mask, breath deep, and you get the saliva effect too.

Additional note: Painters tape (Blue or Green masking tape) applied to the fuzzy side of the skins during a cleaning and re-gluing operation help protect the fuzzy side from glue spill over.
Also if you end up applying "gold label" or similar new glue -- allow glue to dry in a warm place long enough that it firms up -- at least 24 hours at room temp or more -- too soft new glue can be a real mess.

With really helps when one is being meticulous.with or without BF's additive.
