YEEEE HAAAA…WOOOO HHHHOOOO… mighty big fun screaming down the perfect groomers

While I'm not sure about that Roll Eyes, with this I can agree:

Crowds no were to be seen.

Nice drive up and a happy fast drive down.

Missed you both days this weekend, flowing alpy. But I sure didn't miss out on good turns off the High T. See you Tuesday, probably

Debbie's got a groomed lane on the right side this weekend.

Frozen but empty parking lot had the tourists spinning power donuts.
The firmness and lack of intense el sol kept the tourists off the lifts.
JTgoat was doing pizza and beer and adventures outside the ropes.
I spent most my morning grooming a pathway down l'international.

I was happy :-) Great to see you and your beautiful little one along with everyone today.

But damn, one thing I realized (again) by skiing in my compromised state is the Alpental is such a hard ski area. There really is no easy way down off of 1. I worked a lot harder for 5 runs today than I did yesterday at ski acres. Funny.

Easiest of the easy drives
Empty lots guaranteed a slopeside parking spot
Absent of a proper High T, the few that ventured beyond the gates mostly stuck to Sharon's knolls
I explored deeper than usual and took myself to magical places
Where the snow was soft and the turns sprayed faces

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Exciting drive with slush starting @ Exit 38
Early arrival put me in prime position to share the second doublewide padded seat
Slight delay allowed for sufficient crowd buildup - padded seats loaded right away
l'Internationale remained shuttered until 10, after which the fine folks in red opened up much terrain:
Snake Dance just after 11, Elevator just before 12, and Shot Six at 1:30.
Clipped a wing on a tree last lap through the gate, resting and icing and hoping to be good by daybreak

Cornii pre ejaculation yesterday, destroyed the high traverse but fortunately left humanity intact. Snow Safety Mgrs. performed cornii maintenance from Sharon's to Chip's creating some impressive runnels and depositions. Thanks Fellas for making a portion of the trip to Piss Pass a lil less intimidating.

Only a few people were on the hill today while the snow stayed nice in all the usual areas, it was especially fluffy while meadow skipping. Entrance to Nash is almost kaput without a lil creativity.
Happy New Year Padded Seat User Group!

Snoqualmonix was an icebox today. After enduring a frigid lap down Debbie's and nearly getting tossed off the padded seats by the breeze we retreated to the lower reaches across the highway. Went from West -> East over the course of 3 hours and skied everything from chalk to windbuff to ice to chunky. Best snow found in the mellow trees @ East (altho the upper reaches of l'Internationale sure were sweet). 3 layers on top, 3 layers on bottom, balaclava, neck gaiter, gloves & liners kept everything comfy except my feet.

Headed back up in the morning, despite the pass report indicating current conditions are freezing rain. Everyone should probably stay away Wink

Report indicated the gates were closed so we didn't bother with the padded seats today, opting to lap mellow angled slopes and trees at East instead. Took a few powerline laps now that the Central - East crossovers are open and the turns were okay... nothing really to write home about except it started nuking hard right around 230. Skied til closing bell and hit the highway - was surprised at how few cars were on the highway considering how busy Silver Fir was today.

Par for the course today - roughly 10" new on top with a friendly bottom beneath it until approx. the elevation of the Snake Dance gate. Reasonably-sized crowd, dumped all morning before clearing up around 11, right as the sun came out the safety coordinators opened-up Snake Dance, Elevator followed the next lap and the only disappointment was not being able to stay all day. Definitely a scratchy surface lurking beneath the relatively "blower" new - I don't expect things to stay great much beyond Wednesday. Rocks already poking through most of the entrances to Nash, thankfully it looks like there's some Alpenspackle on the way.

Indeed Chris.  Wind had refilled yesterday's tracks in Lower International, it skied nice bell to bell. Totally a locals country club day. It was an honor to sit second chair behind Alpental royalty this morning arriving at 855 in line. Thanks Chris Matt John Quincy Corey Greg Nigel for humoring this geezer today. I also got to see Johnny from Chair2 huck the cliff under that chair.  Bravo!

I think I saw you at Hyak on Sat.  That was a great call, my boys and I had a blast and snow was great in the trees.  Sun 22nd at Alpental got progressively better after my 1st "turns" on the cat track to lower I yielded blue ice instantaneous skid to butt.  The 3" of new through the day helped.

It would appear that not only temperature but snow quality
have been inverted in the passes by the higher powers that be

I made similar obs. skittering from icy groomers to silky smooth down the high 2 resort's backside last week
To be honest, it would've qualified as a powder day back East

HAHA. Yes indeed the hardest part of today was timing the chairs. I started good then got lost. Got some good footage and with tomorrow's opening few runs should have enough to edit up a vid in honor of the bbi17. Let's ski a run if the timing works, but I am usually behind you. LOL

Was that Silas that got bucked, saw that as he tried to grab another non-paying attention skiers ski which snagged right after getting on the chair.  Poor lefties then had to go and dig a hole for the non-paying attention skiers.  I was right behind and that ski nearly impaled me as I straightened it out.  Much heckling by the powdertechs over this snafu.

Dude, you rock!! that is so cool. Sunday was too physical for me (re-injury threat too high) so it ended quickly after all the waiting. Then New Jersey the last 2 days. UGH. Next year we will make a vid of the event and raise more money for the great cause :-)

My first time driving down the West lanes December 26, 1996 after 40 inches fell that day from 6 AM to 8 PM. Took me 45 minutes to dig the 'ol car out, looked like those people last Sunday.

International was closed, Cante side closed. Only the Edelweiss bowl or west side if the chair was open. That being said what a great day. We were able to get to Airplane with a little effort and not ducking  a rope. Had fresh lines with 10 " of fresh on a firm base all day. Sunday should be good in areas where the snow holds

A much easier drive than expected made me the 5th (non-touron) car in Lot 4.
Got 2nd chair on Armstrong and occupied the 3rd padded seat (wax works wonders).
Sun came out early, stayed out almost all day.
High T cracked just a hair after 2, I bagged three laps back there, how about you?

With the Mayor out of town there were fewer folks with which to compete
and despite a post-8am arrival, I snagged the fifth padded seat!
The powder techs did arrive in time to stand around until Armstrong loaded @ quarter past nine
but many took a lower lap before heading for two - which loaded at 10 with a bigly line, ew!
The 17" of new at 5420' was cold, light and fluffy - it was the kind of snow that makes your lungs feel funny.
The safety coordinators kept everything skier's left of lower I shuttered until quarter til 1
then they swung it all open and let us have fun!
I only managed one lap through the newly-opened zone, before I had to dash like a madman to make a meeting that I couldn't attend by phone.
On the drive down the pass I witnessed quite the crash, a passenger vehicle crushed in a losing battle of mass,
it rear-ended a shipping container-hauling semi just east of the exit for Hwy 18, heading west.
The ambulance raced past me as I exited in Issaquah, I hope the driver's alright, as for today in two words:

I couldn't figure out how the hoard heard the call indicating a gate drop was imminent while waiting for Snake Dance to open and then just went full steam ahead past it like a pack of wild dogs.

Was real nice having the shaft mostly to myself, certainly will make burning the midnight oil tonight more tolerable

A perfect way to end February
Deep, light, dry, deep
A crowd for sure but by noonish
C2 was basically ski up
Snake gate opening fun, I was right there next to you pipe (I did not have your patience)
Did one more lap too, clean line down GB Trees

Waitaminute, that was you Griff? I have got to start paying more attention to who's who... the volly at the gate sure didn't seem happy with all those folks standing around. The 5-10 min of delay and traverse kludgery paid off bigly - I bet today is great.

Glad your hammy is back to 100%. You scored well on the best day of the season to-date Grin

What a difference a day makes
And 8 degrees, yesterday 24 at bottom
today 32, and it was painfully different
More avy debris, upside down surface
But hey, never a line on C2

Looks like yesterday was the better day.  Warming made the snow heavier today, especially below 4500'. Skiing was like heavy cream cheese.  My funnest least tracked lines were in shot 6. Wildside Wednesday was heavy for this geezer, maybe fun for youngsters on fatter skis?

Indeed. I'm glad I got out to tour yesterday, but sniffing out water skiing lines through the untracked was kind of fun today too. As was milking what strikes me as the tail end of  this snow wave when Wildside opened at 4 with you, Silas. But by then and down that  low crossing a  snowboard trench was more consequential than  usual!

An odd start, no C2.......
But that was the only reason to be
After a quick breakfast at the car
I return and ask the patroller
He says at least another hour, I commiserate
Which paid off cause 30 seconds later
Literally they lode (sic) C2 (nice hour dude, patience is a virtue)
Smiles on the faces of many, skiing nice
Rode the lift with my ol' HWS Crew
Left at 12:30 to be with my critters, did Nash gate open?

^^^ Thanks.

Bluebird and powder, and an 8:45 AM start (Day 1)
Cold snow on top of yesterday's soft surface
The Ice Age is a distant memory
Parking lots filled, I haven't been in any Lodge all year (other than Jackson)
Lines good until 10, then bigger but not bad
E gate/Heavenly Trees to end the day

Here is the less wordy report:

Nipple deep, Elevator cracked just after noon
Shot 6 shuttered at 2, padded seats closed one ride early
Beat the pass closure out by less than a minute thirty

I didn't think, that we would see a day better than the 28th
Today was it, with the bonus of smaller crowds and earlier E gate drop
Would not have survived those two E gate laps
If not for the generosity of bobby
Thanks for the Capri Sun (Wild Cherry!)

33F & nuking @ Exit 52. The DOT needs to hurry up with this EB closure so we can get this convoy rolling...

For those of you playing along at home, 2 & Armstrong shut down @ noon, Sessel's spinning but nobody's riding it and night ops have officially been canned for this evening. Still, all the hassle and waiting was worth it for first chair this morning.

Oh, and FYI: http://www.nwac.us/observations/pk/701/

Boot-deep new up top,
fast, fun raincorn at the bottom,
no crust to be found between.

I've ridden far worse this season and it takes more than a light drizzle to get me down.

Esp. when chair 2 is ride-on, ride-off all day.

It was almost embarrassing, to be
the only one in P4 and on C1 at 9  Roll Eyes
Country club day on the groomers
Didn't even think about C2
Left when it got crowded at 1030
Like 12 people
Plus the poor dad with his little kids
I saw them get to the top on my 3rd lap
They were halfway down as I finished
my last lap 8, 60 minutes later  Embarrassed

^^^^^ I left just as they were. Car read 36 and telemetry confirms. But the firm groomers were actually decent all the way down to the top of C3 and then I found one good groomer track down Sessel that I kept hitting. LOL. Seriously, one. I don't mind skiing firm groomers, I pretend that I am at Aspen in the World Cup. Damn that's ice.

In New England, "ice" is either  blue (really blue, and not grainy), or clear or black. Not white. That's called "frozen granular" in their snow reports. I used to keep my edges well tuned back when I lived there. It was  easy to tell the difference underfoot. Paid good money many times to ski frozen granular, often in near 0F and windy conditions. Our "conditions check" was to open the  car door in the ski area parking  lot and listen for the sound of the turns being made.

Just peeked at the  Summit webcams - looks like the  gas firepit by the Silver Fir lodge is by far the most popular terrain  feature at the  moment.

Glue on schmoo, esp. down low out Elevator gate
Tomorrow's refrozen chunder and loose wet debris
will likely send me a tad further East Wink

8" new up top on a rain crust rode exactly like you'd expect it to
bigger surprise was how fun the knee-deep slurpee was off 1
although the bigliest surprise of the day was the sheer amount of debris on the Nash side
Thankfully Snake Dance opened in the afternoon before things got too ugly

Surfed Silver this morning through the sun breaks and snow showers until the chair went tits up at 2, then scuttled over to Alpental for the remainder of the afternoon. Lower mtn had softened playfully without much stickyness but everything above the Fan was still locked-up tight. One white knuckledragging lap down l'Internationale was enough for me, although I did find the turns in Snake Dance to be of acceptable quality. Tomorrow's shaping up to be a great training day, see you on the slopes!

2 loaded right away, Nash Gate swung open around 9:30
With no reason to stay inside the ropes, we found ourselves repeatedly on the outside of them
Enjoying the outdoors in Washington on a gorgeous spring day with a sufficient amount of new in which to play
Bell to bell was the call, with a last run all the way from the top of 5456 for some 261 proper fun
Thanks to everyone who came out to have fun in the sun!

Excellent company, solid attendance and hopefully enough excitement and fun to make it through another operations-less workweek.

with a light crowd and intermittent afternoon sunbreaks
made for a nicer day than expected, even without access beyond the gates

Bigly sun. Bigly crowd. Bigly gathering of like-minded k00ks in Lot 4 & out-n-about. Got enough laps today to keep my whistle whetted until December. Firm start necessitated some hot laps on Sessel - unfortunately just as the corn blossomed so did the lines. 20-30 mins for chair 2, depending on your initial angle of attack - the annual snowball fight started in earnest at the bottom around 330 and kept going until quarter past 4 up top. Good company out the upper gate for one last lap w/ plenty of "scenery" on the descent to the bottom(s) Wink

My PLEASURE. Got to keep the kids safe. The kids ski vision is skewed because of us. Both Q and G are used to going places that few ever see, period. Danger lurks in those places. But when you have been skiing those places since age 6, it seems normal and safe. It's not.

Love the kids. Have a great spring and summer. Yesterday was AWESOME!!!
