Tips for Beginners, in 5 words or less! was created by indosponger
:) Think - how would you respond to someone who asked "What gear do I need for backcountry skiing?" or "Where is a good or safe place to try backcountry skiing for the first time?"

Some 5-word-talking-points:
*gear
*time management
*skill assessment
*safety
*safety courses

Give me your best tip(s) for beginners in 5 words or less!

Find a good partner. Learn.

Bingo!  What fun, like haiku for beginners.  Good to hear from the Scotsman again!

Beware when highs jump 10*F.
Avoid lee slopes after windstorms.
Allow extra time for wildsnow.
Stormy days get late early.
Live to ski another day.

I know this is a bit wide of the thread mark but......If you want your skiing years to be long and fruitful there are 2 rules.

Always ski with people who are younger than you.
Always ski with people who are better than you.

Words of wisdom that I heard a few years ago.

Steep skin tracks slip.
Short strides grip.
Pull yourself up, not push.
Thermos, puffy jacket , enjoy view.
Getting home most important goal.
