Wanting to get the month of October out of the way, I decided to take my chances on Heliotrope Ridge where continuous ice, crust, and snow could be found at 6300 feet.  I would highly recommend ski crampons be used until more snow falls.  I almost backed out of skiing as the first 300 vertical feet were the hardest to skin up and ski down.  There were some good conditions higher up.  A good storm will smooth this area very nicely!

Thanks for the report.  I'm really hoping for some freshies for OcTAYber  8)

The current Rainier forecast is looking nice for a refresh, although it might get warm in the weekend
