Some NPS accountability, finally

Sorry if it's already been posted here, but Dave Uberuagua, former contract manager and then superintendent at Rainier, finally got held accountable for something. For those who don't know, in 2002, when he was asst. super at Rainier and in charge of concession contracts, he sold his house in Ashford to RMI for more than triple its assessed value. A whistleblower investigation resulted in the case being referred for prosecution, but it was mysteriously dropped by federal prosecutors. His then-boss, Jon Jarvis subsequently promoted him to super at Rainier, and then successfully pushed to get him the Grand Canyon super job. At GC, he apparently buried multiple sexual harassment complaints. Another internal investigation ensued, and that, ultimately, led to Jarvis offering him a different NPS gig in DC. He declined and was allowed to retire as a 30 year NPS employee (with full benefits) instead of getting fired. The article below has some enlightening info on this and other leadership debacles in the park service, including Jarvis, who is now NPS director, being relieved of responsibility for NPS ethics due to, you guessed it, a significant ethics lapse on his part.

Uberuaga's retirement was in May, so it's hardly breaking news, and being allowed to retire with a huge SES pension is hardly accountability.  The guy who protected and promoted him and presided over years of outrages is still NPS Director.  For those with time on their hands, here's what's been happening the past few months for America's 'best idea' and worst-managed bureaucracy:

FWIW, the old 'Changes at Rainier' thread has been averaging over a thousand views per week all summer.

"Jarvis is pushing for policy changes that would give corporate donors unprecedented influence over park managers and National Park Service decisions."

A petition to fire Jarvis was initiated on June 21 requiring 100,000 signatures in a months time (by July 21, 2016), but only 905 signed, so the petition was killed.
Fire National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis. We deserve a director who will uphold the agency's integrity.

Probably would have got the signatures if there had been someone in charge of publicity to get the word out to all the outdoor websites etc.
Not much use in having a signature requiring petition that no one knows about...
