Getting ready to confirm a reservation for winter at a hostel style place, a cheap hotel would be better but the ones I have found are all a bit pricey. Any info greatly appreciated.

Sorry, no specifics for Andermatt. But, generally, $90-100 a night for a hotel in Switzerland is a good deal. It is an expensive country! That typically includes a nice breakfast, which in some cases you can turn into a nice lunch too!
You can also try towns a short distance away (like Disentis) which has it's own, sometimes preferred, ski area. Try sites like booking.com (choose lowest price first), which also has travelers reviews/pictures/tips,  or airbnb.
This may not be any help to you, but I thought I'd share it.
