We had a morning meeting so we didn't get to Naches until just before noon. Yeah, it was late but it was a nice day. Carol and Bryan were doing a tour around Naches Peak. We parked near Tipsoo Lake and met a young family from Bavaria who had rented an RV in Vancouver, BC and were on a 10 week vacation with their new baby. We started up the northwest facing terrain. It has tree-lined trailsand some steeper lines. We put on ski crampons early which made the upper lines easier. Skiing close to the trees provided a firmer and more enjoyable line going up and down, since being later in the day the open slopes were getting slushy. We met Carol and Bryan in the parking lot later in the afternoon. They had found that the east facing terrain was also very slushy. With our upcoming heat wave for the next few days, it's definitely a very early morning tour regardless of which way you go!
Clockwise or counterclockwise? Are the south slopes still holding snow? is a tour over to Dewy and Seymour still doable?
thanks
thanks
Carol and Bryan did a counterclockwise. We only skied on the northwestern slopes so we did not see Seymour Peak or Dewey.
I was out there today and was barely able to piece together an 1100' southwest run off the Naches skier summit. Not likely to last past tomorrow though. Somewhat mushy in most spots so >100 waist skis are recommended. Tours toward Dewey likely to have some de-skiing.
Went over to Yakima Bowl after lunch. Shorter runs but better snow. Intersected with legends EricR and JimD.
No pollen sticking today but snow on the slow side. Beautiful day but Interglacier or Whitman Crest likely to have better turns this weekend on the east side of Rainier.

Thanks all for info. We decided to get the longer ski in on paradise glacier.
