Here's our route: MAP

Full details + photos over here: Peak of the Week

Top level:
  • Tim and I left the gate at 4am
  • Traversed the Shuksan Arm to the base of the climb (mostly on snow)
  • Topped out on the North Face around 12:30
  • Decided to skip the summit due to timing
  • Good turns on the upper mountain
  • Took the valley floor on the way out, alder was bad, but I'll never admit it
  • 15 hours car to car

Conditions:
  • The arm is skinnable from Chair 8
  • Creeks are open unless you stay high
  • Snow was soft on the traverse into and for first 500 feet of NF, but not reactive
  • Large cracks on lower NF ice field, still places to cross, but with more melting, it will only get harder
  • NF snow was very firm for last 1k of vert
  • Descent down the White Salmon had a lot of slow moving wet loose to a depth of 5 inches
  • The valley approach is as bad as they say it is, but never admit it Wink

Overall, Tim and I had a spectacular day. The exposure on the route is higher than anything I've experienced. It had us moving as quickly as possible towards the upper section of the climb, which though still steep, mellows out a little bit (that's relative). I'm not sure how you would catch the full NF line in good skiable conditions this time of year.

Nice linked blog. Easier reading than TAY for sure.

After summiting Shuksan we spotted you 2 from the edge of the Sulphide. I wondered where ya'll had come from. Nice effort

Snapped this pic of you about to make the crossing to the WS.

MattT, that's awesome! We thought we heard/saw people on the summit, but weren't sure. Sad we missed you up there. Hope you had a good tour/climb.
