I headed out with a large group of mountaineers today for the basic manuevers field trip that was part of the ski/snowboard mountaineering class that I began last year. The day was sunny, gusty and oh so very cold. The basin being protected from the sun contained mostly wind packed snow! It was mighty tasty. ;D We dug some pits, did some transceiver practive drills, and built some emergency bivies. The pits revealed a few ice layers, but we didn't get anything to slide. The snowpack was pretty solid. A fine day out. My only complaint might be is that we could have had a few more turns that and frozen courderoy is very bumpy! *bounce*
