April 22, 2016, Blue Lake Peak col

Did my first ever highway 20 spring opening today at 11am.   Great to see Tootsie Clark  at age 95, her daughter, cinnamon rolls, and coffee for breakfast  in the Ross Resort parking lot at mp 134.  After the NASCAR aspirants departed, we took a relaxed drive to Blue Lake parking where there's room for eight well parked cars or three poorly parked ones. We found soft snow not frozen for the past few days, 3-4" ski penetration, which made skinning easy, no crampons needed and only 50 or so steps of booting to the col.   Ma Nature held off the shower until we were safely back in our car and headed to Mazama for a 430pm lunch.
