We stopped at the Virginia Lakes Road a few days ago to confirm that there was snow at the end of the road at 9300'.  There are numerous peaks with snow which is skiable. We got back there on the 20th and some of the snow was dissipating with the high temperatures and high winds. South Peak with its north facing slope had a couple of great lines in moderately steep terrain with small brush and trees.  The wind made climbing somewhat pleasant, plus there was no one there.  It was a 1500' climb. We remembered that our climbing started at 9300', which was great to drive to for the start, but our lungs are not €œin shape€ and we were breathing heavily and climbing at a slow pace.  The 1500' descent was in pure creamy snow and was really fun. When you reach 70 years old you get a kick out of doing stuff like this, and the young folks just €œgrin€ at you.  It was FUN. ;)

yeah Zap!  great to read that you and Jill are back in the Sierras for another spring season!

When do YOU reach 70 years old?
