Weather looked good and a nice hard freeze had set up on Wednesday AM April 6th. Lacking a partner for Baldy, Graywolf, I made my way up to the Hurricane gate to find it closed, despite fine weather and recording saying "road open daily, weather and staffing permitting".

I tried again today the 7th, despite the low temps in the 50's. No overnight freeze; Isothermal stuff on the skin up roughly the route of switchback trail to the saddle. There was solid snow to within 30 feet of the road which was nice, making for a 4 hour car to car tour up over, down the north side, back up and ski out to car. North side bowl was better consolidated snow. Ski out to car will not last more than a few days.
Thanks for the report.

Do you know what road access up the Dungeness River is like currently?

WTA reports indicate road clear past RB trailhead. Drop me a PM Lowell if you're heading up that way and want some company. There will be several miles of carry...

Nice!

Thanks for the TR!
