With considerable avalanche danger just about everywhere today, I decided to head outwith JT  to the southern Olympics in hopes that conditions were different. The original intention was strictly to climb, but upon arrival at the lower trailhead it was clear that there would be too much snow to access the upper trailhead, which meant potential snowboarding that I couldn't resist. That said, I wasn't comfortable with the avvy chute leading up to Ellinor's summit and instead we opted to stay far left from the trail before breaking out of treeline on the ridge overlooking the avvy chute. It hasn't slid yet, so I'm glad we stayed away from it. The powdery awesomeness we enjoyed was just as great as it would have been there anyway!
Were you able to drive to the lower trailhead?  I want to go there this weekend and was wondering how clear, or not, the road is.
