During this rather dry spell before the next powder dump, I finally sorted and posted some photos from our recent ski adventure in Argentina and Chile. I setup an account at Smugmug and there is a link to the photo gallery below the photo posted in each trip report. The link gets you to the photos. In the upper right corner is the "Slideshow" button and then check the box to see the captions for the photos.

Here's a list of the trips in the Sept-Oct, 2005 Backcountry Trip Reports in the order they are listed:

October 25-27 - Volcan Villarrica,Chile
October 24 - Volcan Llaima, Chile
October 22 - Volcan Chillan, Chile
October 19 - Volcan Lonquimay, Chile
October 16 - Volcan Lanin, Argentina
October 21 - Volcan Antuco, Chile
October 17 - Volcan Caviahue, Argentina

Under the Lift-Accessed Ski Reports in the order they appear:

October 2 - Chapelco, St. Martin de los Andes, Argentina
October 9 - La Hoya, Esquel, Argentina
September 30 - Catedral Patagonia, Bariloche, Argentina

We spent 2 months in Argentina and Chile of which 2 weeks were in a Spanish Immersion course in Bariloche, Argentina. We then took the Navimag ferry from Puerto Montt, Chile to Puerto Natales, Chile which travels the fiords of the west coast. It was very similar to the scenery we saw when we traveled in our 19 foot boat from Seattle to Glaciar Bay, Alaska. We then traveled to Torre del Paine for some trekking. Then over to El Calafate to see the Perito Moreno Glacier. Then to El Chalten to trek in the Torres and Fitz Roy area. Flew to Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia. We tried to get a cheap last minute cruise to Antartica but the prices were too high. Flew up to Trelew and Peninsula Valdes to see the penguins, dolphins and Right Whales. Then back to Bariloche to pick up our ski gear, bus to Santiago and back home. It was a great adventure. We plan to return again a little earlier in the ski season and spend time skiing/touring in the Central Andes up to Santiago.

Zap & Jill
