Jan 31, 2016, Mt Hood - Palmer, Hogsback, summit

After many years of trolling TAY, figured it was long past due to add to the forum!

Headed up to Timberline with the bro yesterday. Ran into a handful of skiing parties and two other climbing duos. Telemetry the past couple days was showing strong westerly winds, but wasn't too surprised to see evidence of swirling with deposits on a variety of aspects. At the Hogsback and above, special care was taken to avoid any heavy deposits, but comfort was gained in the fact the freezing levels hadn't climbed quite that high in the recent warming cycle and there was little/no evidence of a crust layer.

One trickier section through the pearly gates to the top. Ended up down climbing a couple hundred feet into the old chute and skied out from there. Nice snow through Devils Kitchen onto the Palmer, and the sun warmed the wind kissed recent snowfall on Palmer for a really enjoyable cruise out. I could've been fooled into thinking it was early summer with the amazing weather we had on Sunday!
