We arrived at Jackson Hole on the 28th and picked up our free tickets for 2 days with our Mountain Collective Passes. We stayed for 3 nights with friends from The Mountaineers who were renting a condo here for several days. Friday night they received 15” of fresh powder. Saturday we were at the base at 8am and we got a $15 parking spot. We walked about 40 yards to the lifts. WOW! The lift lines at the tram, gondola, quad and double lifts were incredible. We waited with the crowd for the lifts open for an hour. There were no obvious lift line markers or employees around. Getting into a line was interesting, but we remained happy with smiles on our faces. After about an hour they started to load the lifts, and we chose a double for a short ride up to a triple lift.
At the base area some of the folks believed they could get on the triple lift before the people from the double lift arrived, so they walked up to the lift. It was a young folks hike. When they arrived they were surprised that all the folks from the double lift were in front and they had to continue up hill to the back of the line. They were wet from climbing with their gear in hand and no back packs. We were nice and let one get on our chair (it was a triple, after all). Others in line were not so nice.
There was untracked powder for awhile, but there were many locals on a roll. We had some good deep runs early on, but the snow was quickly cut up. The lift lines moved from the base to the upper mountain, and we worked on being patient (harder for some of us than others). By noon it was back to normal crowd-wise, but the obvious lines had been skied hours ago and the locals were off to their powder stashes. Midweek days would have been ideal, but it was a weekend storm so that's when everyone came out – including us.
