A group of six of us got a snowmobile tow from the Crystal Springs Sno-Park all the way to what is "Checkpoint 1" on the Patrol Race Route (near Yakama Pass).  We then proceeded to skin northward toward along the route (the PCT) toward the start.  Conditions were amazingly beautiful all the way until we got to the lower elevations in the timber on the backside of The Summit ski areas, particularly around Lodge Lake.  The lower elevation (~3000ft) trees had bombed out boiler plate conditions (yikes).  The crazy thing is the we ran into a group of three just south of Mirror Lake doing the same thing, but in the opposite direction!  The words out!

By the way - THE SIGNUP DEADLINE for the race registration lottery this year THIS FRIDAY (Jan 15th).  The race will be Feb 27th.  It is free to sign up for the lottery and all instructions can be found at http://www.meanylodge.org/activities/patrol_race/patrol_race.html
We was really lucky to use your trail for a while, but finally lost it ;(
