Stoked to find some fine turns and great views at Diamond Head, off Hwy 97 at Blewett pass. This was an incredible way to start the new year!
We found well skied XC trails and turned up the NE ridge. We broke trail for a bit and then found a well set skin track. We descended the N / NE slopes from the summit back to the car. The slopes did not appear wind loaded, despite the obvious prevailing winds indicated by rime.
Snow is consolidating, and was softer down low. There's a healthy dose of surface hoar at higher elevations, with faceted crystals below the surface. Nothing released with a ski cut.
Clear skies, little wind, and inverted temps (38 up top, 7 at the cars)
