Rock Mtn lived up to it's name. Started skinning the trail at 7:30am and made it up 2k feet before we called it off. Half skied and half booted down. Not enough snow yet. Needs another 2-3' to really make it worthwhile.

Then headed to Stevens and found 10" or so of new light density snow on top of the crust formed during the high pressure. Skinned to the top of Double Diamond and had a great ski down.  Very light wind, snowed most the time, and snow coverage was good enough for smiles and whooping it up. New snow was not that well bonded to the crust on Double Diamond. Skins didn't want to hold and skis wanted to slip out on the way up.  A few loose sluffs in the gut of lower Double Diamond flowed 20-30' on the old crust. Fun to ski!

Resort employees were busy making preps to open.
I've skied rock a few times in the last week or so. There is good coverage once you get past the switchbacks ;).  But I agree, the price of entry is high.
