Same weather and variety of snow as yesterday with soft 6" powder in sheltered areas providing the most fun skiing. Last nights pot luck dinner for trail maintainers included smoked trout and salmon, salmon and cream cheese ball, crunchy salads, excellent spaghetti and meatballs, fruit pies, and a fantastic chocolate chip bread pudding with Italian Plum whiskey sauce! Thanks Chris for a wonderful meal, comfy accommodations, and a competent and happy young high camp crew. What a unique and fun place to ski tour in the Northwest. Far from the madding crowd.
Remembering back to late March 1980 when Bill Hopkins and I blundered into Peg and Bill Stark's operation just below McCue Ridge. Came out after a few days to hear about increasing activity on Mt St Helens, leading to the big event on May 18. He went to work for them while I was comfortably ensconced with a girlfriend back in Ellensburg. Seems like a long time ago.
